Best hikes in Rhodes

Even though Rhodes is known for its stunning beaches, history and fun activities, there are some amazing hikes to consider on your trip to Rhodes see the most breathtaking views from the top in naturally beautiful surroundings. These hikes can be highly fulfilling as you will be far from the buzzy touristic areas surrounded by divine nature, often scented with wild herbs around you.

Rhodes is very hot during mid-summer therefore the recommended season especially for more demanding hikes are February-June and September-November.

In July and August it is recommended to start the hike as early in the morning as possible in order to avoit the heat. Longer and more difficult hikes can be too overwhelming in July and August.

Hiking path from Salakos to Profitis Ilias

From Salakos to Mount Profitis Ilias

This route begins from the picturesque village of Salakos which is situated on the slopes of Mt. Profitis Ilias. Mt. Profitis Ilias is the third highest spot on the island of Rhodes. It is named after the monastery which is located at the summit of the mountain.

The route is fairly challenging but the surroundings on the route will keep all your senses constantly stimulated as you will go through thick pine forests and sage-scented slopes. It's very likely that you will meet some friendly sheep and goats on your way. Once you pass the most challenging part there is a plain with wooden huts to have a picnic or a break.

Besides the views, this hiking route is especially interesting for history buffs. On the slopes and on the tops you will see WWII military barracks that remind you of the horrors of war - you will also bump into alpine-styled hotel built in the 1920s as well as the abandoned Villa de Vecchio which belonged to the Italian governor of Rhodes in the late 1930s.

From Monolithos to Mount Akramytis

This route begins from the remote village of Monolithos which is situated on the slopes of Mt. Akramytis in southern Rhodes. Mt. Akramytis rises to 823 meters and is the second highest point on the island of Rhodes.

The route's first part is fairly challenging but the views on the route will keep you constantly energized. The path will take you through thick pine forests and sage-scented slopes. Once you pass the most challenging part the upslope paths are pleasant with beautiful surroundings.

This hiking route is straight from a fairytale - most of the route is pleasant and goes through thick pine forests and dreamlike meadows. The first part is slightly challenging but after that it gets easier. At the summit the path is again a bit more challenging. In our opinion the most beautiful hike in Rhodes and definitely a hike to consider if you're into active holidays!
