Plimmiri Taverna

An amazing seafood taverna in southern Rhodes. Located far away from everywhere in front of a fishing harbor. The seafood served is always fresh and always caught within couple of hundred meters from the restaurant.

Colonia San Marco Caffe

An extraordinary café spot in the middle of nowhere. The building is beautiful and was originally built by the Italians during the Italian occupation in 1910s for a settlement called 'San Marco' - hence the name of the café 'Colonia San Marco Caffe'.

Right next to the café there is an old catholic church which is being renovated. On the opposite side of the road you'll be able to see endless wheat fields and an abandoned silk factory which truly makes this an unforgettable place to have a coffee.

Kallithea Spa

An impressive spa located between Faliraki and Rhodes. The healing properties of Kallithea springs have been known since antiquity. The Kallithea springs drastically changed during the Italian occupation when the then governor of Dodecanese Mario Lago initiated a proposal and build a modern spa town around the healing springs.

Herb Kiosks

On the beautiful coastline of SW Rhodes you will find many herb kiosks run by an elderly couple. The kiosks sell herbs, liqours, honey, spices and tea. Be prepared for some complimentary refreshment for your road trip.

Eleousa, Rhodes

Eleousa

Once you continue through the village of Archipoli and through the pine forests you will access the village of Eleousa which was built for Italian lumberjacks during the occupation. Here you will find an abandoned ghost-town as a sign of the Italian influence on the island. The village of Eleousa was founded by Italians and was called Campochiaro during those times. The village was firstly inhabited by sawyers and lumberjacks from Northern Italy. During the war it served as a huge military base with 20,000 soldiers based there. After the war once Rhodes (and the Dodecanese islands) merged with the rest of Greece it was noticed to be a suitable place for a sanotarium for tuberculosis patients due to its high altitude and fresh air.

Now the buildings have been abandoned for a few decades and it is a very interesting stop to go and explore these buildings that certainly have seen a lot.
