From the city of Rhodes via the east coast to Prasonisi is one of the best road trips you can do in Rhodes with stunning shoreline views, plenty of beautiful villages to experience and beautiful shorelines. South Rhodes is wild and you will for sure feel you're far from everything.
Be prepared for many pit stops. That is why it is recommended to begin as early as possible in order to have flexibility.
South Rhodes
In terms of distance, it’s about 92 kilometres. That is about 1hr 50minutes without any stops. But you will definitely want to have multiple stops on the way!
In our opinion it would be preferable to reserve one full day for the road trip.
The stretch of road will have you passing by the beautiful east coast shoreline with the best beaches of the island, turquoise waters and beautiful villages.
As you can see you’re in for a scenic drive that will give you a glimpse of the most beautiful coastline of Rhodes.

The route is 1 hour 50 minutes - it might sound short but it definitely is full of aesthetic and scenic stimulation.
The route starts from Rhodes city which is the capital of the island of Rhodes featuring a population of 60,000. It’s your gateway city and great to start your road trip from!
Rhodes city is a central location. Here you will find plenty of accommodation options and low-budget and luxury restaurants and cafés. Even though it is a city, Rhodes is already the first taste of beach paradise. The turquoise waters are visible or around the city and Ixia’s “windy beach” is the most common beach destination in the city.
The route begins from Kallithea coast which is your second glimpse to the beach paradise of Rhodes. You can have your morning coffee in the absolutely stunning surroundings of Kallithea Spa. You can also take a morning dip as there is an organized beach in Kallithea.
Kallithea Spa
The route continues through the tourist resort of Faliraki and onto the Rhodes-Lindos road. You will continue past the village of Afandou in order to access the monastery of Panagia Tsampika. Here you can do a hike up to the monastery of Panagia Tsampika (enter history of Tsampika). You can dip in the sea at the beautiful sandy beach of Tsampika after the hike. Another option for a dip in the sea is at the beach of Agathi which has the finest, golden sand beach.
The next possible pit stop is at the ancient village of Lindos which is a stunning village covered in white island-style houses. At the top of the village there are ruins of the ancient town of Lindos that you can go up to either with a short hike from the stairs or by a donkey taxi.
Lindos
If you love seafood, it is highly recommended to stop and eat lunch/dinner at Plimmiri beach tavern. Plimmiri is a fishing port so the surroundings are secluded and raw. The fish is always fresh caught right from the front of the restaurant. The staff is always happy to show the options of the day. Have fish, octopus or calamari together with some mezes and enjoy the peace and beauty of seclusion. A speciality worth trying is sepia in its own ink.
Plimmiri
After Plimmiri on the way to Kattavia you will bump into the most unexpected cafe bar. Colonia San Marco Cafe is located in the middle of nowhere in South Rhodes. On the opposite side there is an abandoned silk factory. The setting is so extraordinary that it is definitely worth the stop to have a coffee, snack or refreshment there.
